Highly rated Irish Main Tank player Liam ‘Liam’ O’Donnell has announced that he will be stepping down from the Angry Titans Academy roster with immediate effect as he has decided to take a break from competitive Overwatch.
The 18-year-old World Cup International had been part of the successful Olympians roster since its creation at the start of last season, making it as far as the final round of qualifying in Contenders Trials.
The announcement came as a shock to his followers as the Angry Titans Academy are due to play in the Open Division Playoffs this weekend in an attempt to regain their spot in Contenders trials for another chance to reach EU Contenders. However, there has been a lot of recent movement on the line up with coach Scrivzy most recently leaving his post at ATA to take up the role of head coach at Shu’s Money Crew.
The Kildare teenager, a popular figure in the worldwide Overwatch community known for his dive Rein play-style, has also announced that he is going to give full-time streaming a shot as he feels a change of scenery in esports will do him and his motivation good in the long term.
Speaking on Twitter, Liam said that “It was a hell of a run with the lads through OD and Trials and I’m really proud of how far we came” going on to thank his supporters “thanks to everyone who has supported me to this point, would not be here without the help from so many!”
He added that nothing is set in stone just yet:
This is very much a break from competitive Overwatch to try something new, whether it will stick or not I have no idea. I could be back playing competitively in a months’ time.
Liam also announced his new full-time streaming schedule which includes 6 days a week with only Saturday being excluded, starting at 7PM BST tonight.
