NSG Crowned UKEL Champions

Irish esports organisation, Nuclear Storm Gaming, have been crowned the champions of the UK Esports League after beating London Esports in the grand final of the league playoffs on Tuesday night.

NSG took on the team who many people considered to be the tournament favourites, London Esports, in a best of five series that would crown the Spring champions of the UKEL. London were coming into this match off the back of their semi-final victory over Bulldog Esports which they closed out very quickly with a 2-0 win. Meanwhile Nuclear Storm had been without an official match since the end of the league split having received automatic qualification to the grand final following their emphatic performance in the group stage.

The grand final, watched on Twitch by hundreds of people across the UK and Ireland, faced off at 6.30pm with London starting strong out of the gates. NSG quickly turned the map around with a strong series of team fight wins, managing to secure the first map and taking a 1-0 lead.

London managed to regroup for the second game having fallen behind but some vital kills coming out from the team including a very impressive Elder Drake, allowed the UK team to tie the series up 1-1.

NSG would go on to secure victories on maps 3 and 4, solidifying themselves as the champions of the UKEL and a first place prize of £750.

Nuclear Storm Gaming Managing Director, Stuart McAllister spoke to IEN regarding their UKEL win:

“I’m obviously absolutely delighted with winning the UKEL, no one gave us a chance from day 1. To be able to take a team of relatively unknown players and beat the bigger UK teams is a big accomplishment as well as having 2 Irish players in the team. As far as I’m aware no Irish players have won something like this within League of Legends, so I’m very happy that they were able to do that and make history with us.”

The NSG team will now be focusing their attention towards the SQ1 Championship where they are in prime position yet again to take home another championship in 2020 for the organisation who will be hoping to build on their success so far this year.
