Nuclear Storm Gaming’s Rocket League team have emerged victorious at Ireland’s most recent Rocket League LAN event, hosted at GAME’s Belong in Ballymena, County Antrim.
The Ballymena LAN, hosted by Ireland’s dedicated Rocket League community RL Ireland, took place at the home of the Ballymena Bears with a prize pool of over €500 up for grabs.
The tournament would prove to be only the 2nd Rocket League tournament to ever be played outside of either Dublin or Belfast, with the only other being in Cork in 2019 as RL Ireland try to spread the Rocket League fever to every corner of Ireland.
A total of 8 teams attended the tournament with the likes of Fusure and Dylan ‘dyln’ Cronin on the side of WeDelicious hoping to reach their 7th consecutive grand final as well as NSG esports hoping to better their 3rd place finish at Insomnia Dublin last November.
The group stage proved to be fairly straight forward for both WeDelicious and NSG as both teams stormed on with a 4-0 in Groups A and B respectively, earning their spot in the semi-finals. The Quarter-finals seen Enargu reign victorious over EU side Demonica with a 3-0 scoreline as they went on to the semi finals along with Upgraded who also won their quarter-final with a 3-1 scoreline.
The semi-finals went as many predicted with NSG and WeDelicious taking the wins to meet for the first time at the tournament in the grand finals that would be shoutcasted by Conor ‘Dave Forehead’ Kostick and Sean ‘Nailer’ O’Neill on Twitch.
The grand final lived up to its expected-reputation as a lively best-of-7 series seen the boys in yellow and black take home the prize of 1st place after taking the match 4-2 with NSG front-man, Arctic securing the second LAN win of his career as well as being named MVP of the tournament.
